The idea behind the Existing Fence Conversion Systems is to cat-proof the top of an existing barrier. Solid fence lines made of Wood, Vinyl, Brick, Concrete Block, Metal, PVC, etc. will all work as long as the existing fence creates true barrier in all ways but the top (eg. the only way the cat is able to escape the fenced area is by climbing over the existing fence).

If your cat does not have to climb your fence to get out of the fenced area, it is likely that adding a conversion kit will not have much of an effect (if they are leaving the yard by going underneath the fence, for example). If your cat can get through your fence by other means (going through or under it, for example), we recommend that you use our Freestanding Cat Fence System to cat-proof an area within your existing fence. Alternatively, you may be able to make adjustments to the existing fence to prevent escape through all avenues, in addition to adding a conversion kit to the top of the fence.
