What is the height of the Freestanding Cat Fence system?Updated 2 months ago

Our Freestanding Fence height is technically adjustable by setting the arm mounting collar (the piece that holds the spring-loaded arm to the post) at the desired height.

The posts included with the Freestanding Fence are 86" long, but of that, about 12-13" is set into the ground which leaves a post of about 6 ft tall above ground. If the arm is set to the top of the post, it will add an additional 12 inches for a maximum height of about 7 ft tall.

The arm can be set lower on the post, but we do not recommend a finished height of less than 6 ft (measured from the tip of the arm down to the ground or leaping surface below). At this height, most domestic cats are unable to simply leap up on top of the arch of the fence to climb out of the enclosure area. This forces the cat to climb the fence to attempt escape, which is what will activate the spring-loaded arm in the most effective way.

The arch should always be set so that it cannot be leapt on top of in order for the fence to be most effective.

Note that the higher the arm and poly mesh is attached, the more welded wire you’ll need at the bottom to close the gap and create the chew and dig guard. If the ground is not level (eg. you have a slope or uneven ground), you may need to adjust the height of the arms to provide you with enough to connect to the welded wire below. We’ve found that the “sweet spot” for the collar is about 6” down from the top of the post, which will create a finished height of about 6’8”.
