How does the spring-loaded arm work?Updated 10 days ago

The spring-loaded arm design has been used by Purrfect Fence for several years. All of our cat fence systems are designed to be installed at a height that does not allow a cat to simply jump on top of or over the spring-loaded arm. In order for the fence to be most effective, the finished height (measured from the ground or leaping surface up to the tip of the arm) should be at least 6 ft, although we recommend installing even higher for larger, more athletic cats.

NOTE: The top of the spring-loaded arm should be up high enough that a cat is not able to jump on top of it or the arch created.

At this height, the average cat is forced to climb in order to attempt escape. As the cat climbs along the Purrfect Fence spring-loaded arm, it must turn its back to the ground to climb out toward the tip of the arm. As the cat approaches the spring-joint, its weight will cause the tip of the arm to drop quickly.

This motion imitates the feeling of falling and triggers the cat’s righting reflex - a natural instinct that allows cats to land on their feet. In order to land safely on the ground below, the cat must let go of the Purrfect Fence in order to turn over.
