How do you keep a cat from climbing a tree to jump over the fence?Updated 6 months ago

If your yard or the area you'd like to secure for your cats contains trees, they should be taken into consideration when measuring your layout and planning your enclosure.

Whenever possible, the Purrfect Fence system should be placed around 6-12 inches in front of any trees so they are outside of the fenced area. This is generally more easily accomplished with a Freestanding Fence System where placement is more flexible.

If a tree must be inside the enclosure area, we recommend that the fence line be at least 9 feet away from the tree. The spring-loaded arms of the Purrfect Fence systems are about 32" long, so this placement should put at least 6 feet of distance between the tip of the arm and the tree.

If the tree must be inside the enclosure and it is closer to the fence line than 9 feet, special accommodations must be made to ensure the tree cannot be used as a way for the cat to escape, including cat-proofing the tree itself. The best method for cat-proofing varies depending on the tree and its exact location in relation to the fence, but many trees can be cat-proofing by wrapping the trunk in a material that cats cannot dig their claws into. We offer a Tree Baffle Kit that can be used for this purpose.
