It is technically possible for vines to grow up the Purrfect Fence, however, we tend not to encourage this. When allowed to grow up the mesh, they will add weight and tension to the arms along the top, which may affect their functionality and prevent them from dropping properly when activated. They also provide some stability (this is particularly true for larger "woody" vines) and rigidity to the mesh that make it easier to climb by cats. Part of the deterrent of the system does actually lie in the flexibility of the mesh fence material, which makes the fence more difficult to climb compared to a solid or rigid fence.
